A visit to the Auschwitz Memorial was a deeply moving and educational experience. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and conveyed the historical significance of the site with great respect and empathy. The tour was well organized and provided a deep insight into the events and history of the Holocaust. Despite the emotional weight of the subject, the visit was an important reminder of the past and a call for vigilance against intolerance and hatred in the present.

We received an email the day before to say our times had been changed – booked 8am pick up, changed to 9:40am. Not a massive problem for us as we had nothing else planned that day. Bus guide was chatty and friendly – explained in great detail how the day would unfold. The tour guide was good. Shared details well. The overall experience is difficult to sum up as it’s such a tragic journey so you can’t say “I had a great time” I felt it was very busy and felt we could have had longer at points to take things in and ask questions but it was difficult as there were so many groups.

Booking was easy, the company did message me a few days before the trip to try and change the booking, but as it was only a short break I refused the change. A word of warning the pick up and drop off is as close to your hotel, not at your hotel so if you you have any mobility issues be warned. The mini bus was very well equipped and comfortable, the tours were both with the same guide who explained so so much. It was a very good tour and the length of the tour for both the camps with travel was around seven and a half hours pick up to drop off.

Tomasz our guide was amazing – so passionate about the story of the people who lost their lives at Auschwitz and unfiltered. It was a stark and honest tour with many thought provoking moments. We both very much enjoyed the tour being done in this manner. We would recommend to anyone who wants a real look at Auschwitz and Birkenau

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is an impressive site. I was amazed by knowing that all the beautiful art sculpted in salt was made by the workers in the mine. Visiting Auschwitz and Birkenau, guided by a knowledgeable person, was an unforgettable experience. Only being there to feel. Both tours could have been a better experience if the guide in the bus could use the travel time to tell us more about the places we were travelling through. His function was basically a “head counter”.

Pick up and transfer was very good. The Salt Mines are a must see, a great experience. The Church is awesome. Auschwitz a sad reminder of the evil of war. May the souls of all those who perished there Rest in Peace. The tour guides were brilliant, very informative and willing to answer questions.

What To See On An Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour in Krakow

Here is what you can expect on your Auschwitz from Krakow tour:

Auschwitz I

Auschwitz was a Nazi concentration and extermination camp which was established by Germans on the outskirts of Oswiecim, a Polish city, in 1940. By 1942, it had grown to be the largest of the extermination camps used to carry out the ‘Endlösung der Judenfrage,’ often known as the ultimate solution to the Jewish question. During World War II, over a million people died or were killed at Auschwitz. The Auschwitz Concentration Camp stands firmly as a symbol of Nazi Germany’s brutal and systematic campaign to deny minorities of life and dignity. The earliest and served as a site of the camp, Auschwitz I, saw roughly 16,000 prisoners exterminated. It was created to incarcerate Nazi opponents, offer a supply of forced laborers, and act as a place of massacre.

Auschwitz II-Birkenau

Auschwitz II, often known as Auschwitz-Birkenau, began construction in October 1941, around 72 kilometers from Krakow. Birkenau, the largest of the Auschwitz camps, was separated into different parts with electrical barbed-wire walls. It served as a facility for the killing of Jews since it opened in March 1942. It was home to several death camps and crematoriums. There were slave labor camps in over 40 smaller institutions known as subcamps. Birkenau was the final resting place for the majority of Auschwitz’s victims. You can see the railway tracks and original cattle cars used to carry the deportees, as well as the ruins of the crematorium and barracks.

Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum

Auschwitz-Birkenau museum gives a peek into the everyday life of the inmates. Items including barracks, old beds, shoes, clothes, photos, notebooks, and pots are well preserved and part of their permanent exhibits. Visitors can also see the genuine human hair remains and photographs of captured prisoners.

Bunkers

The bunkers form an essential part of the camps that you cannot miss. Bunker 5, located in Auschwitz I, is the most heart-rending of them all. The abandoned and lost items belongings, such as glasses, shoes, pots, and pans carried from their homes, and the shaved hair of the victims are on display. Bunker 11, also known as the death block, is where the Zyklon B gas was first used to kill the victims. Bunker 27 showcases a massive book with the names of most of the Jewish victims.

Wieliczka Salt Mine

The Wieliczka salt mine, located 14 kilometers southeast of Kraków, has been receiving visitors since 1722 and is one of Poland’s most popular attractions. It’s a 300-kilometer labyrinth of tunnels and chambers spread across nine levels, the deepest of which is 327 meters underground. Only a small portion of this huge tunnel is exposed to the public during a two-hour guided tour.
